Ortho-K, also known as orthokeratology are contact lenses, but they are different than conventional soft contacts. Soft contacts are worn during the day and removed at night. Ortho-K is the opposite. They are worn at night while you sleep and they are removed in the morning. If you are thinking about getting Ortho-K, schedule an appointment with one of our eye doctors at Livermore Optometry Group.
While you are sleeping, Ortho-K gently reshapes your cornea, correcting your refractive errors. When you wake up in the morning and remove the contacts, you will be able to see clearly all day without needing to wear glasses or contact lenses.
Ortho-K corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism to a certain degree. If you are nearsighted or farsighted, your prescription needs to be in the range of +2.00 to -6.00. If you have astigmatism, your prescription can be no higher than 1.75D.
In many cases, you will need to wear the contacts for two or three nights before they reach the maximum effect. If you have a high prescription, it can take a week or two.
For the best results, you should wear your contacts every night. If you forget just one night, you should still be able to see clearly in the morning. If you do not wear the contacts for three nights or longer, you will need your glasses or contacts to see clearly. If you wear the contacts as instructed, you will be able to see clearly all day long.
If you are thinking about getting Ortho-K, schedule an appointment at Livermore Optometry Group in Livermore, CA. Our optometrists will perform an eye exam to fit you with the contact lenses. Call us today at (925) 447-3883 to schedule a consultation or to learn more about Ortho-K.
